Experience Cooking in Hong Kong as a Local

Hong Kong July 30th 2017 - After only one year, Local Cooking Experience Hong Kong has already become one of the best reviewed Cooking Class on TripAdvisor. Passionate about cooking since a very young age, Edith has been sharing her love for food and cooking with everyone around her.

Edith loves to cook and always tries new things in her kitchen for the pleasure of her family, friends and students as she is also a private English tutor. After multiple travels around Asia trying different cooking classes, she quickly realised that she had the potential to start her own cooking classes and thus Local Cooking Experience Hong Kong was created in September 2016.

Edith wholeheartedly puts as much authenticity and practicality into the experience as possible. She firmly says, “I must enjoy each experience because then my guests will enjoy it too. It's not a job, it's a passion.”

Edith customises everything for her customers, from the first email you send her to the end of the experience, to make it personal and unique. All her dishes are meant to be reproduced at home as she really wants people to experiment and cook more. In a country where there is 1 restaurant to every 300 people, it is a luxury to eat home-cooked meals.

You won’t find her on any booking platforms as these don’t allow enough flexibility. She gets her traffic mainly from TripAdvisor and her Facebook page and she is working hard to improve the ranking of her website on Google.

Local Cooking Experience's signature tour is a 3-4 hour affair starting with a mini food tour around Ap Lei Chau to try some local delicacies such as char siu (bbq pork) and egg tarts followed by a visit to the local wet market of Aberdeen and ends with a cooking class of 3 dishes at Edith’s home.

She has recently started a summer weekly cooking demonstration series for local expats which include some vegan and vegetarian dishes. It's a cozy, engaging way to learn some local Chinese dishes that anyone can easily reproduce at home. Meeting new people at every gathering is an added bonus as each class can take up to 6 people.

Another project Edith is working on will focus on cooking classes for domestic helpers. Indeed, with over 330,000 domestic helpers in Hong Kong catering mostly to Chinese families, it is a rewarding and promising market to look into.
